Microneedling in NYC

New collagen. New skin. Improved texture

How does Microneedling Work?

Tiny micropunctures are created in the skin with a vibrating needle tipped device. When these micropunctures are created, the skin starts sending signals to heal itself, and as a result your skin creates new collagen and elastin. An antioxidant rich hydrating serum is also used during the microneedling process which allows these potent ingredients to penetrate much deeper than is possible with just topical application. The result is smoother, tighter skin and a brighter, more even complexion.

What does microneedling treat?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne Scars

  • Texture

  • Pores

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Dark undereye circles

  • Lines around the mouth

Benefits of microneedling:

  • Minimal downtime: typical recovery takes about 2-3 days for most people, so this is the perfect treatment if you want results but don’t have the time to take off for more invasive procedures.

  • Safe for all skin types: the procedure has been clinically proven to be effective in all skin types, Fitzpatrick 1-6

  • Convenient: the procedure takes about 45 minutes

  • Comfortable: with our numbing cream the procedure is near painless. It sounds a lot scarier than it feels!

  • Alternative or adjunct to Botox or filler: This is a great anti-aging treatment for patients who prefer to avoid botox or filler. It is great for lower face wrinkles that are unable to be treated with botox. One of the best things about microneedling is its versatility. You can use it in combination with botox or filler (in separate treatment sessions) to get the best results.

  • Can be administered year round: when treatments are appropriately spaced apart and supervised by a physician

Where to get microneedling in NYC

There are many estheticians who can do microneedling in NYC. Dr. Lee is one of the few board certified physician who performs microneedling in NYC. She uses SkinPen®, which is one of the only FDA approved devices for microneedling to ensure the safety and efficacy of the procedure. She has extensive knowledge of the skin and anatomy to ensure appropriate needle depths and effectiveness of the treatment for your specific skin concerns.

What is the difference between at home derma-rollers and professional microneedling?

There are many benefits of professional microneedling versus at home derma rolling. Most at home derma rollers only go up to 0.5 mm in depth. Professional devices can penetrate from 0.25 mm all the way up to 2.5 mm, and depths can be adjusted depending on the area of the face that is being treated and the targeted skin concern. This means that the treatment will be much more effective when done professionally.

Another important difference is that the needles on a professional microneedling device penetrate the skin vertically at precise perpendicular angles to the skin, whereas at home derma rollers penetrate the skin with a rolling motion which can cause the needles to pull out at an angle causing unnecessary trauma to the skin.

Lastly, the SkinPen® device uses disposable needle tips and has innovative technology to keep the device clean. At home rollers are difficult to keep completely clean, increasing the risk of infection.

FAQ:

Does it hurt?

We use a numbing cream that is very effective so you should not feel anything more than the vibration of the needle tip.

What should I expect during the procedure?

After the numbing cream is applied, your skin is cleansed and prepped for the procedure. A serum with hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and antioxidants is applied to the skin and the SkinPen microneedling device is passed over the skin. At the end of the treatment a serum is applied to the skin to assist in hydration and wound healing.

When will I see results?

You will start to see improvement in your skin about 1 week after the procedure, But it can take a full 3-6 weeks for you to see the maximal results from your treatment because it takes time for the skin to produce new collagen and elastin.

What will I look like after the procedure?

Pinpoint bleeding can be expected immediately after the procedure, which can be cleaned off. Most people look slightly red or pink like they have a sunburn and feel comfortable returning to normal activity after 24 hours.

How many treatments will I need?

You will see results after 1 treatment, but to really get the full benefit of microneedling, a series of 3 treatments spaced at least 4 weeks apart is recommended for general skin tightening and toning. A series of 3-6 treatments may be necessary for acne scarring.

What should I use after the procedure?

It’s important to use gentle products on your skin in the days following your procedure. A specific aftercare protocol will be discussed aft your visit, but in general we recommend:

  • Gentle cleanser: ZO® skin gentle cleanser

  • Gentle moisturizer: ZO® skin hydrating creme

  • Moisturizing serum: ZO® Skin firming serum accelerated or rozatrol serum accelerated

  • mineral SPF

  • 2 weeks before and after avoid cosmetic procedures such as botox, filler, or laser treatments

  • 3 days prior to your treatment, stop using any retinols, AHA’s (glycolic acid), or BHA’s (salicylic acid) and avoid for 1 week prior to treatment
